With anxiety, inattention and stress becoming more common place for both children and adults in the early year’s environment, this session explores the use of classroom-based mindful practices to support health and wellbeing. It highlights the importance of social and emotional learning to support knowledge, attitudes and skills necessary to understand and manage emotions, develop empathy for others and form positive relationships. Participants will explore the importance of children developing self-regulation and self-determination through the processing of sensory information and the positive impact on focus and engagement levels. Join us in exploring a child’s ‘new reality’ and learn how to attune young children to people and the natural environment.

Learning Objectives:

1.     Understand the importance of social and emotional learning to support the development of self-regulation and self-determination

2.     Know strategies to support mindfulness in the early years classroom

3.     Understand the relationship between mindfulness, the natural environment and overall health and wellbeing in the early years classroom
