Sizzling Hot Eid Escapes: It’s not too late!

Wadi Darbat, Salalah, Oman

Eid al-Adha is fast approaching and is a gentle reminder that the summer holidays are nearly over.  What better excuse do you need to make the most of the closing weeks?  Why not book a mini-vacation and take advantage of Dubai’s central location to explore somewhere new and have a last summer adventure? If you have been looking for ideas or are now finding yourself inspired by the travel bug, here are our top tips for last-minute places to visit.

The grass is always greener

Well in Salalah, Oman it kind of is.  It can be easy for many of us to assume surrounding countries are very desert like in landscape, but we defy anyone not to be blown away by the lush vegetation and colours of the Salalah Valleys.  Accessible via direct flight from Sharjah, Dubai and Abu Dhabi, this stunning destination is a fantastic choice for a quick, budget-friendly Eid break.  You can visit their insta-worthy beaches with a far cooler temperature than home and tour the magnificent Marneef Cave and its blow holes.  According to Gulf News, you shouldn’t miss the Salalah Anti-Gravity Point where cars can travel uphill in neutral gear.

Quirky personality and unique culture

It might not roll off the tongue that quickly when considering holiday destinations but there is a surprising amount of wonder to be found in Baku the capital of Azerbaijan.  Just a few hours from the UAE, The National notes that this bustling city offers “Parisian-style boulevards and Caspian coastlines with fantastic seafood as well as amazing architecture such as the huge Heydar Aliyev Centre, one of the last projects that the late architect Zaha Hadid worked on”. There are world heritage sites, ancient monuments, rich old flavours and traditional customs to be experienced; and a recent uptake in lovely hotels from which to base yourself.

The fusion of old and New

There is something truly special about Japan and its ability to seamlessly blend between ancient traditions and modern functionality.  From the bustling city life of innovative Tokyo to the wishful whimsy of the Star Festival in Cherry Blossom famous Kyoto, there are so many places to choose from to visit.  As well as outstandingly delicious food, from fine dining to street vendors, August in Japan is a month of festivals, fireworks and colourful celebrations of culture.  For those who like to have a physical sense of accomplishment, there are some stunning National Parks to hike through including Hokkaido, Mt. Daisen and the Iya Valley.

Spice up your summer

Another flavourful destination only a short plane ride away is Kerala, India.  A trip to Munnar, Kerala is the perfect way to immerse yourself in connections to Mother Nature and breathe in the fresh mist of lush landscapes, picturesque tea estates and exotic greenery.  From this central location you can explore the world famous tea plantations, spot the wildlife of Eravikulam National Park and marvel at the beauty of the Atukkad Waterfalls.  This is a refreshing break that will fill the soul and recharge the spirit.

No plane required

If you don’t fancy dusting off the passport, there are still ways to have a fantastic staycation right here in the UAE.  For a staycation with a difference, why not try the Eid Offer of up to 25% off at Emirates Park Zoo and Resort.  This is the perfect chance to take a safari-style holiday, without the stress of busy airports or long plane rides.  Only forty minutes from Dubai or ten minutes from Yas Island, Emirates Park Zoo is a spectacular venue, filled with wild adventures and plenty of furry friends.  Their newly refurbished and uber-luxury Retreat Chalets immediately evoke visions of indulgent African safari trips, particularly as you wake up to the calls of the wild and friendly giraffes waiting to share your breakfast.  You can feed the crocodiles, make paper out of elephant dung and even have Brunch with the Big Cats.  This Eid al-Adha coincides with World Elephant Day so the zoo has designed a range of activities around two of their nicest residents, Madu and Rada the Asian elephants; you can even get a copy of their own special story book!  With all of their activities and over 2,500 animals to meet, there is so much to do for the whole family; plus this nearly zero-waste Zoo is dedicated to important conservation work that visitors can learn more about and find out how to get involved.  Visit their website for more information and to book an Eid staycation with a wild side.
