Your child’s wellbeing is supported by Teaching Assistants through a variety of learning activities in the classroom, as well as encouraging children with their educational and social development in the school community.   • Stay hydrated – Teaching Assistants use their voices a lot and as result may develop a sore throat or lose their voice. Drinking lots of water throughout the day will work to prevent this and will also ensure that you can tackle illness such as common colds more easily.
  • Pack healthy meals – Being a Teaching Assistant means that some days you will have limited time to eat lunch and will occasionally have to eat with the children. Ensure that you pack a balanced meal with lots of vegetables, fruit and whole grains. This will keep your energy levels up without feeling sluggish and you’ll also be a great role model to your students!
  • Wash your hands regularly – this will prevent the spread of germs and communicable diseases so that you stay fit and well.
  • Wear comfortable shoes and practice good posture – Teaching assistants stay active in the classroom so keep in mind that proper posture, bending from the knees and wearing the right show help combat daily fatigue and prevent injuries.
  • Be Mindful – practicing mindfulness exercises throughout the day will enable you to keep a clear head, staying focused and on task. Find a quiet spot, close your eyes and listen to the sounds of the school all around you. Clear your mind of everything else and tune in to your own breathing rhythm. You can even do this with your students before a lesson or during carpet time because we all benefit from mindful moments during a busy school day!
  • Continue your education – There are many choices and courses that help develop you knowledge around working with children and can support your daily experience in the classroom. Teaching Assistants make a real difference

How can I become a Teaching Assistant?

Most Teaching Assistants require qualifications in literacy and numeracy at GCSE or a high school Diploma as minimum. You will also require a police check from your home country if you have been living in the UAE less than 3 years and at least two references. Many Teaching Assistants in the UAE are now choosing to gain specialist qualifications as the demand for experienced and highly skilled Teaching Assistants increases.
