Maths is everywhere in early years provision, and as a result, quite often it becomes the forgotten specific area of learning. In this session, early years teachers will learn how children develop mathematically as well as the pedagogy framing the teaching of Maths. An enabling environment should support mathematical development and opportunities for ‘in the moment’ learning. Teachers should know how to support interactions with students whether this involves counting, measuring, recognising patterns, describing shapes, addition and subtraction. During the session, participants will plan a Maths project for their class and take away ideas for games, activities and environmental set-up.
