Young children have an innate curiosity to engage with the world all around them and it is this that makes them amazing explorers, investigators and problem solvers. Questions like, “How does the stick get inside the lollipop?” and “Where does water go when it disappears down the plughole?” may seem similar to questions many of us have been asked by our young learners and reflect the relevance of science to young children’s lives. In this session, teachers will be taken on a reflective journey through a science project conducted in an early years setting. Participants will explore scientific concepts, framing hypotheses and questions with young learners and how to conduct focused observations. Most importantly, teachers will gain ideas on how to use the scientific processes all around us to instigate investigations.
